Mumbai: Mumbai has gained notoriety for its exhausting traffic jams and extensive commute durations, ranking as India’s second most congested city, behind only Bengaluru. As a result, a large section of the city’s population chooses to rely on local or metro trains as an effective strategy to overcome congestion.
Nevertheless, the absence of efficient last-mile transport connections in the public transport system often forces commuters to turn to auto-rickshaws to complete their journey.
In the viral video, a young man came to Mumbai Metro with his bicycle and shared his unique experience on social media platforms. He said, “Cycling on the bustling streets of Mumbai and then seamlessly entering the metro with your bike is an exciting adventure! It allows you to explore different parts of the city, immerse yourself in the local culture and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. It’s a perfect blend of urban exploration and fitness.
Notably, commuters are allowed to bring their bicycles on the Mumbai Metro without any extra charges. Each compartment is equipped with a designated parking slot, capable of accommodating one bicycle at any time. However, it is worth noting that this feature is currently available exclusively on Yellow Line 2A and Red Line 7, as indicated by Metro officials.
The internet is full of reactions
Ever since he posted the video, it has received a massive response from netizens, with many users thanking the Mumbai Metro authorities for providing parking spaces for bicycles to commuters. One user jokingly commented on the video, “Bro literally transporting a transporting vehicle into a transporting vehicle for transportation.” Another said, “After a few days I am definitely going to watch a reel about cycling in Delhi Metro.” Another user said, “Thank you Mumbai Metro for providing convenient services to the passengers. Providing parking space for bicycles is a problem-solver for many people.
