Mangaluru: Puthige Math head to ascend ‘Paryaya Pita’ on January 18
Mangaluru: Sri Sugunendra Titha Swami of Udupi Puthige Mutt has launched the ‘Koti Geeta Lekha Yagya’ as part of his fourth sojourn for a period of two years starting from January 18.
Addressing reporters in Udupi on Saturday, the seer said the mutt planned to gift one crore handwritten copies of the Bhagavad Gita to Udupi Sri Krishna as part of the Koti Geeta Lekhan Yagya.
As per the biennial cyclical distribution of worship and administration of Sri Krishna Matha in Udupi among the Ashta Mathas of Udupi, the seer is ascending the Parayaya Peetha for the fourth time in his 50 years of ascetic life. He had previously held the Parayaya seat in 1972, 1992 and 2008.
Naming his ‘Vishwa Gita Paryan’, the seer urged the devotees to participate in the yagya by obtaining the Bhagavad Gita and notebook from the Math.
Those participating in the yagya are asked to write down verses from the Gita and submit the handwritten copies to the Math before January 17, 2026, when their parochial tenure ends. He said that the Math wants to include one crore devotees in the Yagya.
The saint said that during his Parayan period, an international Geeta conference and various Geeta-related programs like Akhand Geeta Parayan (chanting of Geeta from morning to evening), discourses, competitions, debates and camps are being planned.
The ‘pura pravesh’ of the saint will be held on January 8. Various organizations and bhajan troupes will take out a procession from Jodukatte to Car Street on Monday. A felicitation will also be organized by the Udupi District Administration and Citizen Welcome Committee.
