Mango crop damaged due to hailstorm, Hamirpur

Hamirpur: Mango crop has been damaged due to hailstorm and rain following sudden change in weather in the district today.

It is estimated that about 15 percent of the mango crop in the district has been damaged due to hailstorm.
Sources said this year, mango growers were expecting a bumper crop as last year there was a weak season for the fruit.
Mango is grown in an area of more than 2,500 hectares and the district produces more than 1,200 metric tons of the fruit every year.

Apart from hybrid mango, local varieties are also a source of income for the farmers of the district. Ramesh Kumar of Bhumpal village of Nadaun sub-division said that this year the mango trees have yielded bumper flowers and he hopes to earn some money from his crop. “But bad weather will ruin my dream,” he said.
Meanwhile, the weather department has predicted bad weather for the next two days, leaving mango growers across the district worried.
