Manipur case: Mizoram CM appeals to Biren Singh, PM to take action
Aizawl (IANS). In the wake of the barbaric incident of two women being paraded naked by a mob in Manipur, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga on Thursday urged CM N. Biren Singh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take immediate action against the culprits.
Zoramthanga, who is also the president of the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), tweeted: “The brutal violence in Manipur affects not only the neighboring state but the entire country. The situation seems to be getting worse! Silence is not an option.”
“I am shocked to see the viral video. Shocking video of sexual harassment of two women in Manipur is cruel, merciless, disgusting and inhuman! Need to find permanent solution to Manipur problem.”
Zoramthanga also called for “immediate restoration of peace and normalcy” in the affected state.
“It is imperative for the Government of Manipur and the Central Government to find immediate measures to restore peace. Therefore, I appeal to the Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, and the Honorable Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, to take immediate action and bring the perpetrators to justice,” he tweeted. I urge you to bring her to the dock.”
Meanwhile, Mizoram’s Minister of State for Sports, Youth Affairs and Tourism Robert Romavia Royte also strongly condemned the incident and urged Modi and Biren Singh to take decisive action without delay.
He said, “It is really disheartening to see the pain they have gone through. I firmly believe that there should be compassion and kindness for all in our society. In light of these tragic incidents, I would like to express my condolences to Manipur CM N. Biren Singh and Urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take decisive action without further delay. It is imperative that he comes forward and resolves this serious issue immediately.”
Soon after ethnic violence broke out in Manipur on 3 May, tribals from the Kuki-Zo-Zomi community started coming to Mizoram.
Mizoram is currently home to over 12,000 displaced people from Manipur. Displaced people have taken shelter in relief camps, rented and relatives’ houses, churches, community centers and other places in all 11 districts of Mizoram.
