Manipur violence: 4 commandos injured in terrorist attack in Moreh
Four commandos of Manipur Police were martyred in the militant attack. According to HT report, the attack took place on Saturday night. Reports said the militants attacked the commandos inside their quarters in the border town of Moreh. Mentioned that the terrorists fired rocket propelled grenades (RPGs) against the security forces. He said a quarter of the men were killed and four commandos were casualties in the attack. The Moreh commandos were informed of the attack a few hours after another unit of Manipur Police commandos traveling on the Imphal-Moreh road was attacked during the day. A commando was injured in the fierce firing on the convoy at around 15.45 hours on Saturday. “The situation was under control after the incident in the evening. But around midnight the terrorists lobbed grenades and fired heavy bullets to attack the commandos sleeping inside the quarters. Four of them are suffering and leaving their leaves. “One of them may have suffered ear damage due to the blast of explosives,” an official quoted in the report said. The four commandos were immediately shifted to the nearby Assam Rifles hospital. He said that after the incident, senior officers of Assam Rifles reached Moreh, a border town near the India and Myanmar border. The report quoted Kaikholal Haokip, the voice of Kuki Inpi Tengnoupal, a group of residents of Kuki Tengnoupal, as saying that unidentified armed men had attacked the commandos around midnight. Nearly a month of peace in Manipur, ravaged by ethnic conflicts, was disrupted on Saturday morning when a shootout broke out between volunteers from Meitei and Kuki villages, killing one person. More than 200 people have so far been killed and displaced for miles due to caste violence in the state. On 4 December, hours after security forces received information about the shooting, they recovered the shot bodies of 13 people in the hinterland of Tengnoupal district.
