Medical student assaulted, asked if she learned nothing from ‘The Kerala Story’
Dakshina Kannada (IANS). A medical student in Mangaluru city was allegedly attacked by a group of miscreants who asked if she had learned nothing from ‘The Kerala Story’.
The four girl students lodged a complaint at the Urva Store police station in Mangaluru city on Friday evening. Police said that six students pursuing medical studies in a medical college had gone to Panambur beach in Mangaluru on Friday evening.
The boys had come by bike and the girls had come with them by bus. A gang of miscreants had started monitoring the activities of the college students. He had made a video of boys and girls together.
The college students ignored them and did not interrogate the miscreants. Later the boys went back on their bikes and the girl students boarded the bus. One of the four girls got down at Chilimbi bus stop and was on her way to her PG.
He was followed and threatened by miscreants of the same group. The gang members asked him if he had not learned anything from the film The Kerala Story. The miscreants also assaulted him.
The victim along with her friends had lodged a complaint against the culprits and demanded action against the gang. The police is investigating the matter
To curb the ethical policing activities in the coastal region, the Congress government has initiated several measures. A separate branch of police has been set up to crack down on groups harassing couples, students, especially in coastal areas in Mangaluru.
The police department’s move to issue deportation notices to three Bajrang Dal workers in Mangaluru over their involvement in incidents of ethical policing had created a controversy. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G. Parameshwara has warned of stern action against ethical policing and said the incidents have damaged the state’s prospectus to attract investments.
The previous BJP government was accused of supporting Hindu activists and groups doing moral policing in the coastal region.
