Meeting of foreign ministers of EU countries in Kiev
x Kiev: Foreign ministers of some European Union (EU) member countries held their first meeting outside the bloc in Kiev. Ukrainian Foreign Ministry gave information. “I am confident that this meeting will accelerate Ukraine’s European integration,” Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said as he opened the informal gathering on Monday. Addressing the meeting, President Volodymyr Zelensky said his country is ready to implement the European Commission’s seven recommendations to start membership negotiations, Xinhua news agency reported. He thanked the European Union for providing assistance to Kiev. He expressed hope that the bloc will approve a new financial instrument with total funding of 50 billion euros ($52 billion) for the period 2024-2027. He called on the foreign ministers to continue diplomatic work on the implementation of the Ukrainian peace formula.
“The meeting of EU foreign ministers in Kiev shows Europe’s strength, leadership and initiative. The more we work together on defence, diplomacy, the economy and sanctions, the sooner the war will end,” he said in a post on Twitter. Meanwhile, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said the total amount of EU aid to Ukraine had reached 85 billion euros and that the EU would support the country as long as necessary.
“I have proposed a new bilateral multi-annual initiative under the European Peace Facility (EPF), which will amount to 5 billion euros for the next year and more,” Borrell said in a joint press conference with Kuleba after the meeting. More money will come.” In June 2022, EU leaders accepted Ukraine as a candidate for membership of the bloc amid Russia’s invasion of Kiev
