Mephedrone worth Rs 180 crore seized in raid, 3 arrested
Vapi : The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has seized mephedrone worth Rs 180 crore in a raid at a factory in Vapi industrial area in Gujarat’s Valsad district, officials said.
Acting on a tip-off that banned drugs were being manufactured at Prime Polymer Industries located in the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) area of Vapi, the DRI on Sunday conducted a raid and seized 121.75 kg of mephedrone in liquid form, a press release said. Stated in the release of Information Bureau (PIB).
The firm’s owner, Raju Singh, accountant Keyur Patel and activist Kundan Yadav were arrested under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The DRI also recovered Rs 18 lakh in cash from Singh’s house in Vapi, the release said. A magistrate court here on Tuesday sent the three men to DRI custody till November 10.
Two weeks ago, the DRI had busted a mephedrone manufacturing unit in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.
The operation resulted in the seizure of narcotics worth more than Rs 400 crore and the discovery of two laboratories involved in the manufacturing of mephedrone, the release said. It said these back-to-back operations highlight the increasing use of synthetic drugs and misuse of industrial units to manufacture them.
