Mercury reaches minus, villagers are drinking water by melting snow
Kullu. While the cold has increased in the entire state due to snowfall in the high altitude areas across the state, after the snowfall the mercury has become minus in the upper areas also. Due to this, the water of rivers, streams and lakes has also started freezing. Apart from this, villagers are now facing a lot of problems in getting drinking water.
Although the weather is clear in Lahaul-Spiti these days, due to severe cold in the morning and evening, drinking water pipes have started freezing. In such a situation, the problems of the local people have also increased.
Apart from this, if we talk about Yoche village of Lahaul-Spiti, people here have also started migrating because people here have to face a lot of problems during snowfall days.
Yoche village of Darcha Panchayat of Lahaul Valley has a population of 119 people. According to the local villager, currently 82 people are out of Yoche village. This includes some government employees and children studying outside, but about 62 people of Yoche village have had to move out of the village due to lack of basic facilities.
Baldev, former head of Darcha Panchayat, says that Yoche village is inaccessible and people have to face problems due to lack of health facilities and communication services in this village. Apart from this, if the villagers fall ill, they have to go to PHC Darcha, 12 kilometers away, for medicines. Due to poor communication system in the village, people have to come out of the house to make and listen calls.
Many times this problem of the village was raised with the government, but no hearing has taken place. Atal Tunnel is no less than a boon for the people of Lahaul. This has brought a lot of relief to the people of the valley, but the situation is still not better in the inaccessible areas of the valley. After snowfall, now the temperature in the valley areas is going from minus 5 to 30, due to which drinking water pipes are freezing.
