‘Michael Jackson was supposed to sing in Yanthiran’, reveals A R Rahman
Music director AR Rahman has opened up about his meeting with pop legend Michael Jackson. AR Rahman revealed that Michael Jackson was supposed to sing in the Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Yanthiran’ directed by Shankar. He said this while answering a fan’s question at an event held by Free Malaysia Today.
‘I really wanted to meet Michael Jackson. A mail was sent to him informing about it. But even after weeks of waiting, there was no reply. It was at that time that I received an Oscar nomination. Just a few days before the award announcement, Michael’s mail arrived agreeing to meet. But I had to say that I could not come to meet him as I was in rehearsal for the performance for the award night.I replied that I would see him after the award night. He was ok with it. So we met in Los Angeles. We talked at length about music and world peace. He introduced me to his children. It was a very heartwarming meeting. When I came back to India, I shared with director Shankar about the meeting with Michael Jackson. Then Shankar asked me if he would sing in Yanthiran. I called Michael Jackson and he said whatever your wish is we will do it together. We met again. But unfortunately he passed away in 2009’, – AR Rahman.
