Minister Ashok Singhal Flags of Distribution of Free Cycles in Biswanath
BISWANATH: As per the special scheme from the Chief Minister of Assam, a large number of bicycles are being distributed among the Class 9 students of the state. Ashok Singhal, the minister for Housing & Urban Affairs and Irrigation for the Government of Assam, flagged the distribution of bicycles in Biswanath.
Under a special scheme for the 2023-24 financial year, school students of Class 9 will be receiving free bicycles from the state government. During a public gathering undertaken near the Circuit House of Biswanath Chariali Ashok Singhal flagged off the distritubutions for the district.
A total of about 9800 students from 97 schools in the district are eligible to receive these free bicycles in the district which includes a total of 5400 girls and 4400 boys. These students have been divided into three separate education blocks. Out of this large number of recipients, the minister handed over these cycles to selected 15 students to mark the formal start of the distribution. Bihali MLA Ranjit Dutta, Gohpur MLA Utpal Bora, Biswanath MLA Promod Borthakur and several other dignitaries also attended the event.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister mentioned that the state government is working towards bringing in massive changes in the education sector of the state. In order to encourage students to study hard, the government is taking on several initiatives. The distribution of the free cycles is aimed at helping the students of rural as well as far-flung localities of the state to reach their schools.
He also mentioned that the students of the Adarsha Vidyalaya in the Tea Gardens, the government schools and provincialised schools of Class 9 are going to receive free bicycles this year, however, from the coming year, students from Class 8 and Class 9 will be receiving free bicycles from the government thus helping them to travel to and from their schools with ease.
