Mischievous elements set fire to dry grass behind Aldona PHC
Panjim: Scavengers set fire to dry grass and bushes behind the Public Health Center (PHC), Aldona L Sunday, triggering anger among residents.
Three border towns, Aldona, Olauliim and Pomburpa, were affected by the fire and its smoke, causing heavy air pollution in the area.
However, the timely arrival of personnel from the Bomberos station in Mapusa saved areas adjacent to the Anacardo plantations. Residents said that every year some unknown people set fire to dry bushes.
However, even before the attackers reached the spot, some villagers ran to the spot carrying water cubes and tried to identify the fire.
The fire spread to the three towns of Aldona, Olaulim and Pomburpa. The local people helped us a lot and soon we were successful in controlling the fire. Villagers told that this happens every year. These are people who are not dedicated to such activities”, key attacker Prakash Kannaik told reporters.
Advocate Carlos Álvares Ferreira, MLA for Aldona, said: “A message was received that it was causing a fire in the field. I went there and saw that everything was fine. It is the border of Olaulim and Aldona. This is a very beautiful area. These forests are notified and protected. The question was raised in the assembly whether it cuts grass or catches fire. “Inform the government that fraud is involved in carrying out illegal construction activities”.
