Miscreants looted valuables after Durga Puja celebrations
The number of incidents of robbery and theft across the state of Assam has been a major area of concern. In a recent incident, robbers looted valuables from Durga Puja celebrations after the festival concluded.
The incident took place in the pandal of North Mangaldai Sarbojanin Durga Puja Mandap on Wednesday, a day after Dashami. Two miscreants looted many valuables from the premises where the puja was celebrated. They stole many valuable tools and utensils made of brass and bell metal from the premises.

With the efforts of local people and committee members, the miscreants were caught red-handed with the looted goods after the incident. They were later identified as Altaf Hussain and Sariful of Kanichuba area of Nagarbanhi. Police were also successful in recovering narcotics and syringes from the arrested persons during investigation and interrogation.
Despite the police department mentioning that necessary action has been initiated, people have not got any relief from these incidents. Local people of the district have questioned the capability of Biswanath police in handling the situation and demanded that they take adequate steps to ensure the safety of the people. He also mentioned that robbers often commit crimes when people leave their homes for daily activities like school and offices or late at night when everyone is sleeping.

Another incident of robbery took place in the district, where the robbers took advantage of no one being at home and looted all the goods including cash. A rented accommodation in Kochgaon area of Biswanath. It was told that the robbers entered the residential premises by breaking the lock and looted the items kept inside the house. Valuables including jewelery worth Rs 200000 and cash worth Rs 15000.
