Mithali Raj, Harleen Deol, Gujarat stalwarts created a stir in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad (IANS) Gujarat Giants mentor Mithali Raj is currently in Ahmedabad and the team, which is part of the Women’s Premier League, met team owners Adani Sportsline and Pranav Adani.

Players present included Harleen Deol, Sushma Verma, Shabnam Shakeel, Harley Gala, Sneh Rana, Parunika Sisodia, Mansi Joshi, Meghna Sabbineni, Tanuja Kanwar, Ashwani Kumari and Monica Patel. Gujarat Giants mentor and advisor Mithali Raj and assistant coach Nooshin Al Khadeer were also present with him.

Mithali Raj tweeted, “A memorable day meeting the talented Gujarat Giants and Team Adani Sportsline with Pranab Adani Sir. Her support and vision for women’s cricket is truly inspiring. Looking forward to a season full of dedication and wins. #GarjeegaGujarat.”

Pranab Adani tweeted, “Witnessed the incredible power of cricket today with our diverse and talented @GujaratGiants team! Proud to see players from across India coming together as they prepare for the next season. Women’s cricket is sure to achieve great heights!”

Adani Sportsline-owned Gujarat Giants have started their preparations for the second season of the Women’s Premier League and will be hoping for a great performance in the upcoming season of the tournament.

Currently, the WPL consists of five teams including champions Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Giants, Royal Challengers Bangalore, UP Warriors and Delhi Capitals. The inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League was played entirely in Mumbai, with matches distributed between the DY Patil Stadium and the Brabourne Stadium at the Cricket Club of India. The dates and venues for the second season of the WPL have, however, not been finalized yet by the BCCI.

In the last season, the team’s head coach is Australian veteran Rachael Haynes, Harleen Deol was one of their best Indian performers in the inaugural season of the tournament, scoring 202 runs in 8 matches. Additionally, South Africa’s opening batsmen Laura Wolvaardt and Ashley Gardner scored two fifties each, while England’s Sophia Dunkley scored the fastest half-century of the tournament, reaching the historic feat off 18 balls.
