Mizoram assembly elections, voting on 40 seats
Aizawl (ANI): Voting is scheduled for 40 assembly seats in the Mizoram assembly elections on Tuesday, November 7. More than 8.52 lakh voters in Mizoram will decide the fate of 174 candidates.
According to the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Mizoram, 8,52,088 voters, including 4,13,064 male and 4,39,028 female voters, will exercise their franchise at 1276 polling stations.
Mizoram has 50,611 voters in the 18-19 age group who will vote for the first time. There are 8490 senior citizens above 80 years of age in the state.
Around 50 companies of CAPFs have been deployed to conduct free and fair elections in the state.
The ECI has identified 30 polling stations as critical polling stations in the state.
There are only 26 voters at 24 Thelep polling station under number 34. Thorang (ST) Assembly Constituency.
On the other hand, there are a maximum of 1481 voters at 24 Zembach VIII polling stations under number 13. Aizawl East I (General) assembly constituency.
ECI data shows that Thorang assembly constituency has 14924 voters which is the least number of voters and Tuichawng constituency is the largest assembly constituency with 36,041 voters.
The sending of polling personnel to their respective polling stations for voting had started from November 5.
Longtlai district has 181 polling stations, of which 70 polling stations are within 36-Tuichawng AC, 69 polling stations are in 37-Longtlai West and 42 polling stations are within 38-Longtlai East AC. Polling officers are being sent to the remaining 95 polling stations today.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer of Mizoram, out of 1276 polling stations across the state, 30 polling stations have been identified as critical.
To conduct free and fair elections, about 5000 polling personnel will be deployed at the polling stations.
The third and final randomization of voting parties for the assembly elections took place on Sunday. This randomization exercise is to promote free and fair elections, whereby polling parties for 27 polling stations of South Tuipui Assembly Constituency were assigned their respective place of duty using computer software.
The ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) is fighting to retain power, while the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), BJP and Congress will attempt to oust the current government.
Mizoram is one of the five states where assembly elections are being held. Counting of votes will take place on December 3.
In the 40-member Mizoram Assembly, the Mizo National Front emerged victorious in the 2018 elections, securing 26 seats with 37.8 per cent vote share. Congress won five seats and BJP won one seat. (ANI)
