Gandhinagar: Congress has suffered a setback before the Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat. Congress MLA has resigned from the party. Khambhat MLA Chirag Patel has given up. There is speculation about his joining BJP. Patel has submitted his resignation to Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary. Two MLAs from opposition parties have resigned in a week. Before Patel, Aam Aadmi Party MLA Bhupat Bhayani had also broken ties with Jhadu. The Lok Sabha seat of both the MLAs is Anand district.
Patel has left the Congress when the party is busy strengthening the organization before the Lok Sabha elections. In such a situation, the departure of the sitting MLA from the party is a big shock. In the assembly elections, Congress won 17 seats while 5 AAP MLAs reached the assembly. One MLA each from both the parties has resigned. Now Congress has 16 MLAs and AAP has four in the assembly. Congress had won the Khambhat seat after almost three decades. Chirag defeated BJP’s Mahesh Rawal by 3711 votes.
