Mob attacked Malwani police during Durga immersion, case registered against 12
Mumbai: Malvani police in Mumbai’s Kandivali detained five people and arrested 12 people (mostly residents of Ganesh Nagar in Kandivali West) for allegedly rioting and attacking police during a Durga immersion procession on October 24 night. Case registered against. The policemen accompanying the procession had allowed only tempos to proceed for the immersion, directing all motorcyclists to park their vehicles on the roadside and proceed on foot.
However, one rider started abusing the police and the other appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Despite repeated requests from the police to keep the area free from congestion, the riders refused to follow parking instructions.
Attack on assistant police inspector
One of the accused also attacked Assistant Police Inspector Shivaji Mohite, whose name badge was broken. Four to five other people joined in and attacked Mohite, causing injuries. Another police officer intervened to save Mohite but he was also assaulted.
After this the police used mild force to control the crowd. A woman in the group threatened to tear her clothes and make false allegations against the police. Some people tried to calm the atmosphere but the accused attacked them too. One of the accused threatened the police, saying that he would harm them after being released from jail.
