New Delhi: The central government on Thursday appointed Jaya Verma Sinha as the first woman Chairman and CEO of Indian Railways. “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Jaya Verma Sinha, Member (Operations and Business Development), to the post of Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Railway Board,” the government said in a notification. Jaya Verma Sinha will take charge on or after September 1 and her tenure will be till August 31, 2024.
Sinha will replace Anil Kumar Lahoti as the new Chairman and CEO (Railway Board). She is also the first woman chairman of the Railway Board. Vijayalakshmi Vishwanathan was the first woman member of the Railway Board.
Who is Jaya Verma Sinha?
Jaya Verma Sinha has completed her studies from Allahabad University. After this, in 1988, it joined the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS). Has contributed on many important posts including South Eastern Railway, Northern Railway, Eastern Railway. Jaya Verma Sinha has worked as DRM in Sealdah Division of Eastern Railway. Apart from this, she has also been the Chief Commercial Manager in South Eastern Railway.
Jaya Verma Sinha was also Advisor on Railways in the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, Bangladesh for four years. It was during his tenure that the Maitri Express from Kolkata to Dhaka was inaugurated.
