More than 20 students injured in bamboo bridge collapse

Guwahati: More than 20 school students were injured when a bamboo bridge over a river collapsed in Assam’s Dhemaji district. The incident took place in the Chahabari area on the morning of October 26 when the students were trying to cross the bridge while going to school.

Hearing the screams of the students, local people reached the spot and saved them. The condition of at least five of the injured students is said to be critical.

The injured students are currently undergoing treatment at Dhemaji Civil Hospital in Assam.

Due to damage to a concrete bridge, locals had to set up a temporary bridge to allow people to cross the waterway. But on Wednesday, one person died and another was injured in an accident on a temporary bridge.

The incident took place on Wednesday night in Seleghat area of Mariani. An RCC bridge in the Tengbadi area was damaged about five months ago, so locals were forced to build a bamboo bridge to ensure that people could continue crossing the river. But on Wednesday night, a two-wheeler carrying two people fell into the ground below the bridge. In this incident, one person died instantly while the other suffered serious injuries.

The person who died in this incident was identified as Achau Bauri and the injured person was identified as Suren Das. He was transferred to a medical facility for better medical care.

Another accident occurred on the important international highway connecting India and Bhutan, in which one person was injured. After carrying out the incident, the concerned truck managed to escape from the spot. This accident happened in Tulsibari area of Rangia on the very important India-Bhutan International Highway. A motorcycle collided head-on with a truck in front of the local branch of North East Bank. Local people said that this incident is the result of careless driving by truck drivers on the road.
