More than Rs 1 crore seized at Kanubari check gate

Itanagar: Flying squad and static surveillance team deployed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in Arunachal Pradesh seized a huge amount of Rs 1 crore from a vehicle at Kanubari check gate in Longding district on Thursday evening, a senior police officer said. . The district said.

The vehicle, which belongs to Badri Rai Company executive director Harshvardhan Singh, was following the convoy of Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who had gone to Longding to address a party election rally.

Clarifying the media report, Longding Superintendent of Police (SP) said, “The vehicle was not part of the convoy but was following the motorcycle.”
The SP said that the Income Tax Department was informed about the cash seizure and it will investigate the matter and subsequent action will be taken as per the standard operating procedure.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the cash was meant for payment to laborers by the construction company whose activities are being carried out at three locations in the area, including Sonari Medical College in Assam, the Brigade Headquarters in Khonsa in Arunachal’s Tirap district and the Assam Police Battalion. Includes Sivasagar.

The company also executed several projects in Meghalaya, including the construction of the Legislative Assembly.

Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Toko Babu said that during the day, flying squads and static surveillance teams along with police seized Rs 22.20 lakh in the state capital and Rs 16.10 lakh at Seppa in East Kameng district during checking of vehicles. Meanwhile, the state government on Thursday ordered that the issuance of import permits of packaged liquor, bulk spirits and export permits of packaged liquor will remain suspended with immediate effect until the completion of the election process or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
However, liquor permits can be issued in respect of military and paramilitary units, Chief Secretary Dharmendra said in an order.
In the first phase in the northeastern state, simultaneous voting will be held for two Lok Sabha and 50 assembly constituencies on April 19. Counting of votes for the assembly elections will take place on June 2, while counting for the parliamentary elections will take place on June 4. ,
