MP Brijmohan Agarwal raised railway related issues in Lok Sabha
Raipur. Raipur MP Brijmohan Agarwal raised railway related issues during Question Hour in Lok Sabha. He had asked Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav a question on the state-wise status of the Railway Ministry’s 100 percent electrification initiative. To which the Railway Minister has replied in writing that 100 percent electrification of broad gauge network has been done in 20 states/union territories including Chhattisgarh.
Brijmohan Agarwal had sought information about the progress made by the Indian Railways Alternative Fuel Organization (IROAF) in expanding new sources of environmentally friendly fuel and energy in Indian Railways. On which the Railway Minister said that IZROAF was set up in Indian Railways to explore alternative fuels. This has encouraged the use of blended bio-diesel for traction and partial use of CNG and LNG in place of diesel. A pilot project has also been initiated for retro-fitment of hydrogen fuel cells on Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) rakes for traction. The initial work of which is being monitored by Northern Railways.
Apart from this, on the question of promoting the use of renewable energy in the ‘Amrit Bharat Station Yojana’, the Railway Minister has replied that, ‘Amrit Bharat Station Yojana envisages a gradual shift towards sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions including the use of renewable energy as per the availability of funds and the condition of existing assets.
