Mumbai: Man arrested for murder of homeless woman
Mumbai: Police have arrested a person in connection with the death of a 40-year-old woman, whose body was found on the roadside in Sewri last month, an officer said on Saturday. The police on Friday arrested Shahzada alias Ramzan Shaikh (37) for the murder of Sapna Satis Batham, the official said.

He told that on January 22, a partially decomposed body of a woman was found in the bushes on the roadside in Sewri. The officer said police examined missing persons reports and CCTV footage of the area to confirm the identity of the victim. In one of the footage, a couple was seen arriving at the scene on a scooter and entering the bushes. He said that based on the license plate number of the vehicle, the police reached out to the accused and established the identity of the victim.

The woman was homeless and lived on the streets of Mumbai Central. The officer said Sheikh was a frequent visitor to the area and on January 14, he allegedly promised to buy liquor and took her to Sewri. He told that when the victim refused to accept his demand for sex, the accused killed her by hitting her with a stone. He disfigured her face so that no one could recognize her. The officer said the accused and the victim knew each other and he was arrested for kidnapping her daughter in 2018.
