Mumbai Praja Foundation Report: Praja Foundation has announced the report ‘Current State of Policing and Law and Order in Mumbai 2023’ which brings to the fore the worrying reality of crime in Mayanagar. Respectively. Of the total rape cases registered in 2022, 63 per cent were rape cases against minor girls and were registered under the POCSO Act. Of the cases registered under POCSO, 73 percent were pending at the end of 2022.
The report also said that in 2018, the vacancy rate in the Mumbai police system was 22 percent, which is expected to increase to 30 percent by 2022. 22 percent posts of investigation officers are vacant: Out of the total sanctioned posts of crime investigation officers, 22 percent posts were lying vacant till July 2023. A total of 44 percent of cases were pending for forensic testing by the end of 2022. By March 2023, there was a 39 per cent shortage of staff in the respective forensic departments. Cyber crimes have increased by 243 percent between 2018 and 2022. That means their number has increased from 1375 to 4723.
The number of credit card scams and fraud cases has increased from 471 to 3490 during the same period. According to Praja Foundation, the detection rate of reported cyber crimes in 2022 is only 8 percent. Similarly, 589 cases of molestation of women were registered last year under section 509 of the Indian Penal Code, while 528 cases have been registered this year. If we look at these figures, 61 less crimes have been registered this year. 87 percent of crimes have been solved. Last year 67 percent crimes were solved. While talking to ETV Bharat, Joint Police Commissioner Satyanarayan Chaudhary said that this year the rate of solving marks has increased by 20 percent.
