Mumbai: Woman dies after being hit by a speeding auto
Mumbai: Reckless drivers are making Mumbai’s roads a death trap. This week, the city has already seen two fatal accidents, resulting in the death of a food delivery executive and a teenage student. A 50-year-old working woman became the latest road accident victim after she was crushed by a speeding auto-rickshaw on Friday. The deceased was identified as Indumati Dhanmehar, a resident of Borivali, who was working in a printing press.
Details of the tragic incident
According to police, the incident took place around 9.30 am when she was going towards Babai Naka in Borivali West. When she was crossing the road in front of Prasanna Jeevan Building on Chandavarkar Road, a speeding auto-rickshaw (MH 47 AJ2643) hit her. Dhanmehar was taken to Ganesh Hospital by the locals with serious head and leg injuries. Meanwhile, a vada pav vendor informed Dhanmehar’s nephew Bhavesh, who immediately reached the spot. However, the doctor declared him dead even before admission.
The rickshaw puller, Sanjay Khandare, initially fled from the scene, but was later caught by Borivali police. Based on the complaint lodged by Bhavesh, Khandare was booked under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 (A) (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code along with section 134 (A) (taking all appropriate steps) against Khandare. A case was registered under. safe medical care to the injured person) and section 134(b) of the Motor Vehicles Act (furnishing to a police officer any information requested by him). Officer Sameer Pawar said that the accused was later released on bail.
Accidents caused by careless driving by shared auto-rickshaws
“There has been an increase in accidents due to reckless driving by shared auto-rickshaws in the Gorai area,” Bhavesh alleged. Before Dhanmehar, 22-year-old Zomato food delivery executive Saurabh Ayre and 19-year-old hotel management student Mohammad Shaikh were arrested. A similar fate befell him. On Wednesday, Ayre was hit by a BEST bus while he was riding a bike, while Shaikh died on Thursday when a speeding tempo hit his friend’s bike.
