Nagaland records highest GST growth in India with 37% increase in 2025-26

Guwahati: According to data released by the Finance Ministry, Nagaland has recorded the highest GST revenue growth among all Indian states, with collections increasing by 37% by December 2025-26.
This growth is significantly higher than the national average GST growth of 6.8%.
Data from the CGST Dimapur Commissionerate shows that Nagaland’s collections increased despite the GST 2.0 reforms implemented in September 2025, which reduced rates on over 375 goods and services.
Officials attributed this strong performance to the destination-based nature of GST, which benefits Nagaland as a consumer-focused state with a limited industrial base. This system ensures higher tax collections within the state, strengthening its fiscal position.
According to officials, efforts to educate taxpayers and enforce compliance have contributed to strong GST compliance in the state.
Officials also stated that digitization of the tax process has increased transparency and simplified filing for businesses, supporting compliance.
Post-settlement data shows that Nagaland’s GST performance remained consistent even after inter-state adjustments, leading to stable collections.
Officials from the CGST Dimapur Commissionerate stated that continued focus on digital services and taxpayer convenience will be essential to maintain growth momentum.
