Navi Mumbai: Police have registered a case against three people for defrauding a 50-year-old woman from Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai to the tune of Rs 18 lakh by promising to get her son and son-in-law jobs in a government-owned company. The officer said on Sunday that the victim had come to know about the accused from an acquaintance of hers.
To gain the trust of the woman and her family, one of the accused allegedly showed them an ID card belonging to the company and claimed that he worked there, the Rabale police station official said.
The accused presented fake appointment letter
Police said the accused also gave fake appointment letters to the victims. The three accused allegedly took Rs 20 lakh from the woman, a resident of Airoli area, from September 2021.
But when he did not get the promised job, the accused returned Rs 2 lakh to him and later gave vague answers about the remaining amount, the officer said.
Following the woman’s complaint, the police on Saturday registered a case against three accused – two from Pune and one from Ratnagiri – under Indian Penal Code sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 170 (fraud in public domain).
