Nepal landslide, flood death toll rises to 41
Kathmandu (IANS). The death toll in Nepal’s monsoon-related disasters, including floods and landslides in the past two months, has risen to 41. The Home Ministry of the country has given this information.
Joint secretary Mahadev Panth, head of the disaster and conflict management division of the home ministry, said 50 of the 77 districts were affected. At least 55 people have been injured in rain-related incidents in the districts.
According to the ministry, loss of life and property has been reported in 20 out of 50 districts affected by the calamity.
Panth pointed out that similarly, people from six districts including Sankhuwasabha, Taplejung, Panchthar, Dolakha, Makwanpur and Mahottari went missing in the devastating incidents.
According to data compiled by the ministry, 55 people from 28 districts have been injured. A total of 130 houses were completely damaged in these incidents while 193 houses were partially damaged.
There has been a huge loss of life and property in the eastern districts of Nepal including Panchthar, Sankhuwasabha and Taplejung.
The intermittent rain events during the monsoon have resulted in floods and landslides in various districts.
Some districts have still not received monsoon rains. Yet the country continues to grapple with the threat of monsoon-induced disasters such as landslides, floods and inundation.
