New cases of monkeypox-measles surfaced, Medical Association said this
Jerusalem: The Israeli Health Ministry has reported the detection of new cases of monkeypox and measles in the country. The ministry did not reveal the exact number of new cases of monkeypox, but the Israel Medical Association said on Tuesday that along with the five new cases, two suspected cases had also been reported, Xinhua news agency reported. The ministry has urged anyone who develops fever and rash, or who has been in close contact with a person suspected to have monkeypox, to contact a doctor. After 262 cases of monkeypox were reported in the country in 2022, only one case was reported last year. Regarding measles infections, the ministry reported two new cases of a child and an adult, adding that the infection source has not been identified. Neither of them had recently gone abroad. Except for an unusual outbreak in March 2018, when more than 4,250 cases were detected, measles has been rarely reported in Israel over the past few decades. The ministry had recorded 11 cases in 2023, nine of which were linked to an outbreak of the virus in a kindergarten in the coastal city of Tel Aviv in October. Measles is a highly contagious disease characterized by symptoms such as fever and rash. In severe cases, fatal complications can occur.
