New Delhi: Sitharaman will present white paper on Indian economy in Lok Sabha

New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will table a white paper on the Indian economy in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
The supplementary list of business of the House on 8 February mentioned that the Minister would lay a copy of the White Paper on the Table of the House.
The budget session began on January 31 with President Draupadi Murmu’s address to the joint meeting of both the Houses. This is the last session of the current Lok Sabha before the general elections to be held in April-May this year.

The government had announced in the Union Budget presented on February 1 that it would bring out a ‘white paper’ to compare the 10-year economic performance of the Congress-led UPA government with the 10-year economic performance of the BJP-led NDA government. Presenting the Interim Budget 2024-25 in Parliament, Sitharaman said the Modi government, which assumed power in 2014, has overcome the crisis of those years and the economy is firmly placed on a high sustainable growth path. “When our government took over the reins in 2014, the responsibility of reforming the economy step by step and streamlining governance systems was huge.

The need of the hour was to give hope to the people, attract investments and build support for much needed reforms. The government did this successfully while adhering to our strong belief of ‘nation-first’,” he said.

“The crisis of those years has been overcome, and the economy is firmly placed on a high sustainable growth path with all-round growth.” He announced that the government would table a white paper in the House, “to look at where we were by 2014 and where we are now, only for the purpose of learning lessons from the mismanagement of those years.” “The exemplary track record of governance, growth and performance, effective delivery and ‘Jan Kalyan’ has helped the government to realize the goal of ‘Developed India’ with good intentions, with the trust, confidence and blessings of the people.

True dedication and hard work in the years and decades to come,” she said. The budget session, which is the last Parliament session before the Lok Sabha elections to be held in April-May this year, was scheduled to end on February 9 and has been extended by a day.
