New President: Student welfare is my priority, no time for petty politics

Chandigarh: Newly elected PUCSC chairman Anurag Dalal is not new to the business. Anurag, who was elected as the students’ council president for 2016-17 at Delhi University’s Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College, promised welfare of students at Panjab University. The winner, who claims to be associated with the Congress, opted to quit student wing NSUI as he did not want to be a part of any rat race to please political bosses. “A student has been elected to the top of the council instead of a rubber stamp candidate who would have worked on the orders of some mainstream political party,” he said. Asked if it would be possible to work with the other three council members, who are all from different groups, he said, “It is not about party politics or pulling each other’s legs.

We are here with the mandate of the students and we will ensure that everything is done for their benefit and not indulge in petty politics.” “Our motto was student welfare and I assure everyone that it will remain the same even after the victory,” Anurag said after his historic win today. He said that while other parties focused on showmanship, he focused on interacting with students on campus in real time. “We went among the students and told them what we stand for and what we will achieve after being elected to the council,” he said. “Our team worked in a very organised manner and no department or student was ignored. Unlike other candidates, we did not focus only on a particular department, as that is very strong.” He said that they did not have a lot of money and resources like other parties and candidates, adding, “Several meetings were held with students and no unfair means were adopted to achieve the goal of winning the election.”
