New Zealand imposes immediate work visa ban with new rules

New Delhi: New Zealand is taking proactive steps to ensure that its immigration policies are in line with its economic needs and to address issues of migrant exploitation. Immigration Minister Erica Stanford has introduced rapid changes to the Recognized Employer Worker Visa scheme.
The changes include imposing English language criteria for low-skilled positions and setting minimum skill level and work experience standards for most employer-sponsored work visas. Additionally, reducing the maximum period of continuous stay in most low-skilled positions from five years It will be reduced to three years.
Immigration Minister Erica Stanford said, “The government is focusing on attracting and retaining high-skilled immigrants, such as secondary teachers, in areas where there is a skills shortage.”
