Newly married woman commits suicide, accuses in-laws of murder
Durg: In Bhilai, a newly married woman, Kanchan Rao (30 years), committed suicide by hanging herself in her in-laws’ house. After receiving the information, the family reached Bhilai from Uttar Pradesh two days later. She alleges that her daughter was killed by her husband, mother-in-law and brother-in-law. After this he was hanged. The Cantonment Police is probing the matter.
Deceased Kanchan’s elder sister Sheela Devi told that Kanchan was a resident of Jalalpur under Ambedkar Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. One and a half year ago, on 16 February 2022, she was married to Amit Rao (35), a resident of Power House Bhilai. 5.5 lakh rupees in cash, gold and silver jewelery and other dowry were given in the marriage. When Kanchan bid farewell and came to her in-laws’ house, everyone treated her like a daughter. Meanwhile, Kanchan went to her maternal home to celebrate the festival of Rakhi. After celebrating her birthday on 9 September 2022, when her father-in-law took her to Bhilai, her in-laws started harassing her in the name of dowry. He was beaten up every day. Kanchan was very upset. On August 28, 2023, the in-laws informed the parents that Kanchan had committed suicide. According to the police, the cause of death will be known only from the PM report. Police is questioning the family members.
