Nigerian man arrested with cocaine worth Rs 3 lakh
Mumbai: Continuing its crackdown against local drug syndicates, the crime branch unit (Zone III) attached to Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police arrested a 39-year-old Nigerian national who was found with cocaine worth Rs. Rs 3 lakh in Nalasopara.
A patrolling team of the Crime Branch unit led by PSI Abhijeet Taylor noticed a foreign national behaving suspiciously in Hanuman Nagar area of Nalasopara (West) at around 1:30 pm on Thursday. The man, who identified himself as Yao Amed Raymond (39), not only failed to answer the patrol team’s questions satisfactorily but also did not produce documents including passport and visa to authenticate his stay in the country. could.
30 grams of cocaine was seized from possession
Upon searching, the team found 30 grams of white colored powder from him. Police Inspector Pramod Badakh immediately reached the spot with a testing kit and conducted a color test on the powder with a chemical reagent, which was confirmed to be cocaine. The estimated market value of the drug is estimated at more than Rs. 3 lakh.
Raymond was taken into custody and booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Investigation revealed that Raymond was involved in a similar drug trafficking case in the jurisdiction of Tulinj police station. Apart from registering offenses under the NDPS Act, the process of adding additional charges for violation of the Indian Passport Act and Foreigners Act-1967 was underway against the accused. After being produced in the court on Friday, he has been sent to police custody till November 16. Further investigation is underway.
