Nirmala Sitharaman expressed grief over the demise of DMDK founder Vijay Kant
Chennai: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman condoled the demise of actor-turned-politician Vijayakanth, who died due to illness at a city hospital on Thursday.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also expressed grief over the demise of Vijaykant. He also launched X (formerly Twitter). ‘Captain’ Vijayakanth alias Narayanan Vijayraj Alagaraswamy died at a private hospital in Chennai due to ill health at 9 am on Thursday, December 28.
“Captain Vijayakanth was on ventilatory support after being admitted for pneumonia. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, he died on the morning of 28 December 2023,” a medical bulletin from a private hospital said.
The mortal remains of ‘Captain’ Vijayakanth was brought to his residence and is now being taken to the DMDK headquarters in Chennai. His mortal remains will be taken to Rajaji Hall.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced full state honors for the funeral of DMDK founder-leader Vijayakanth.
The DMDK has announced that the mortal remains of Captain Vijayakanth will be buried on the premises of the DMDK headquarters in Koyambedu on Friday, December 29, at around 4.30 pm.
