Nitish Kumar participated in Jarasandha Mahotsav in Rajgir
The minister principal of Bihar, Nitish Kumar, participated in the Jarasandha Mahotsav, which was celebrated to commemorate the 5226th anniversary of the birth of the ancient king of Magadh, in Rajgir on Thursday.
Nitish offered floral tributes in a temple dedicated to Jarasandha on the occasion or for the peace and prosperity of Bihar in his “pillar of victory”.
The Prime Minister also inspected the place where a statue of the ancient king of 20 feet height was being constructed.
He ordered officials to speed up the work and install the statue within a period of six months.
“It should ensure a dense plantation of trees around the place where the statue of Jarasandha will be installed. This is green and attractive.
They should make arrangements for seating at the site so that visitors can spend some time. The statue will be surrounded by water, so it is necessary to open a suitable access road for the people”, said the Prime Minister to the officials present at the occasion.
Historians consider Jarasandha as a semimythological king and have not been able to put a date to his reign.
He has been portrayed as the powerful monarch of Magadha and a skilled fighter in the Mahabharata. Bhim defeated him in a duel with the help of instructions from Lord Krishna.
