Not a single person in Tamil Nadu is working as an orderly: DGP submits report.

Tamil Nadu: The DGP has filed a report in the Chennai High Court stating that there are no orderlies at the homes of serving and retired police officers in Tamil Nadu.

The Chennai High Court had ordered the complete abolition of the orderly system in the police force in 2022. A bench of Justices S.M. Subramaniam and C. Kumaraappan had alleged that the authorities had not fully implemented this order.

Meanwhile, the case came up for hearing before the bench of Justices S.M. Subramaniam and C. Kumaraappan on Thursday. At that time, State Government Chief Criminal Counsel Asan Mohammed Jinnah, appearing for the government, filed a report on behalf of the Tamil Nadu DGP.

The report stated that there is not a single orderly present at the homes of serving and retired police officers in Tamil Nadu. After reading the report, the judges remarked that the DGP’s report was shocking. At that time, the government stated that there are currently no orderlies. It was stated that if anyone reports the presence of an orderly, immediate action will be taken.

The judges hearing the case said that just as the orderly system has been abolished in the prison department, it should also be abolished in the police department. Using a colleague as an orderly for domestic work is a crime under the law. Furthermore, the authorities should also monitor and take action against police officers who claim to be on duty but are engaged in private work. They ordered that information be provided regarding the procedures to be followed in this regard and adjourned the hearing until Friday.
