Nuh violence appears to be ‘part of a larger conspiracy’: Haryana CM Khattar

Chandigarh (IANS). Describing the Nuh violence as part of a larger conspiracy, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Tuesday that five people have died there so far.

He held a high-level meeting with state Home Minister Anil Vij and senior officials to review the situation.

Violent clashes broke out between two groups in Muslim-majority Nuh district on Monday.

According to the police, the clash started when some youths stopped the Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s ‘Braj Mandal Jalabhishek Yatra’ near Khedla Mor in Nuh and started pelting stones. During this some police vehicles were damaged.

The Chief Minister said that the violence seems to be part of a larger conspiracy.

A total of five deaths have been reported so far, including two policemen and three civilians, he said. The people from outside Nuh involved in the incident are being identified.

He said, “The incident that happened in Nuh is unfortunate, as soon as the incident came to light, senior police officers and administration were immediately sent. A social yatra that comes out every year was attacked by some people, the police were also targeted.”

“Vehicles were torched and incidents of arson took place at some places. Presently, the situation is normal everywhere including Nuh.” He said that several FIRs have been registered.

A total of 70 people have been detained so far. In view of the atmosphere of tension in the state, the assembly of people was banned in Nuh and Gurugram, Faridabad, Palwal and Rewari districts.

Along with this, mobile internet services have also been stopped in Nuh and Faridabad till Wednesday.

The authorities also suspended internet in Sohna, Pataudi and Manesar till further orders.

Earlier, Anil Vij had also expressed apprehension of conspiracy behind the communal clash. The Home Minister told the media, “Both the communities have been living peacefully in Nuh for a long time. There is a conspiracy behind it. The way stones, weapons, bullets were found, it seems that there is some mastermind behind it.”

“We will conduct a detailed probe and take strict action against the mastermind,” he said.

He, however, said the situation is under control and curfew has been imposed in the violence-hit district. Nuh Deputy Commissioner Prashant Panwar said that no untoward incident has been reported so far. Flag marches are being taken out. Police took out a flag march in Jhajjar town in the wake of violence in neighboring Nuh.

There are reports that the situation is also tense near Gurugram’s Sohna Road, where vehicles have allegedly been torched.

The Central Government has deployed 20 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) to bring the law and order situation under control. Haryana’s Additional Chief Secretary (Home) had written to the Center for deployment of paramilitary forces.

After this, the Union Home Ministry deployed 20 CAPF companies in Nuh till 6 August. The team comprises four companies of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), two of the Border Security Force (BSF), two of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and 12 of the Rapid Action Force (RAF).
