Odisha: CRPF sub-inspector commits suicide by shooting himself after his leave application was rejected
Bhubaneswar: After not getting leave, a 58-year-old sub-inspector (SI) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) committed suicide by shooting himself with his own service rifle.
Deceased SI D. Gunasekharan was a resident of Gudipalli village in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu.
Gunasekharan, a SI of 19 battalion CRPF, was posted at the CRPF camp at Khadupani under Boden police limits in Nuapada district.
“Gunasekaran had recently applied for leave to attend his daughter’s ring ceremony scheduled for October 30. However, due to some unknown reasons his leave application was not approved. He was mentally disturbed due to not being granted leave and it is possible that due to this he committed suicide. On Sunday morning, he shot himself in the neck with his service AK-47 rifle. The bullet that pierced his head fell several meters away after punching a hole in the roof, a senior police officer said.
The police reached the spot and registered a case of unnatural death in this regard and started investigation.
It is being told that the body of the deceased SI has been sent to his native village by CRPF.
