Odisha: Ex-Headmistress sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 3 years
Khurda: Basanti Devi, the ex-Headmistress (retired) of UGUP School at Bada Nuagaon in Kurda district was convicted and has been sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 3 years.Devi was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance in Bhubaneswar and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and fine of Rs 5,000/- and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months more for the offence U/s 13(2) of PC Act, 1988.The court further sentenced her to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years and payment of fine of Rs 5,000/- and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 months more for the offence U/s 7 PC Act, 1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
Odisha Vigilance had charge sheeted Basanti Devi in a case vide Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar TR No 22/2013 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d)/7 PC Act,1988 for demanding and accepting bribe from President of a SHG for preparation of their bill and submission of the same to the Block authority towards supply of materials for MDM( Mid-Day Mills) program in the School and drawl of payment.The Vigilance department will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Basanti Devi following her conviction.
