Odisha Matric exam: AI camera detects mismanagement and students cheating
Bhubaneswar: The Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha, is conducting the Matriculation examination across the state. The Board has installed AI (artificial intelligence)-based CCTV cameras installed in over 600 sensitive centres for strict management and to stop cheating during the exam. During the second day of Odisha Class X high school certificate (HSC) examination, the AI cameras caught several cases of mismanagement and students cheating in the exam halls. The mismanagement was caught in two centres of Bhadrak and Jajpur districts each and one center in Keonjhar, Gajapati, and Nabarangpur districts each, informed the board authorities.
According to sources, the question papers were opened before the scheduled time in Madanmohan High School in Bhadrak while the papers were not kept in the iron box in Banga Nodal High School of Bhadrak. Similarly, AI camera detected widespread irregularities in the administration of the examination in Gobind Chandra High School of Jajpur district. Meanwhile, the AI camera caught mismanagement in room number 5 of Hatdihi High School in Keonjhar district. The students were caught walking around and talking to each other in the room number 5. Similarly, the examinees were making noise in room number 5 of Gajapati District Government High School.
Despite this much disturbance, the invigilator did not take any action. In another case, there seems to be widespread mismanagement in government UG high schools in Nabarangpur district. Following the detection of the management in the control room, the board directed the center superintendent to take action. The board has also called a meeting of all DEOs through videoconferencing and asked them to ensure smooth conduct of the examination. Many students who were caught cheating were expelled for Malpractice. However, the board has recommended action against the invigilator in charge.
