Odisha: New film policy in the pipeline, cinema halls and Ollywood to be promoted in every block

Odisha: The government is preparing to soon introduce a new State Film Policy to promote the state’s Odia cinema industry, commonly known as Ollywood. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi stated that the government is continuously consulting with various stakeholders regarding the new policy to ensure its effectiveness and practicality.
The Chief Minister stated that the state government is fully committed to strengthening the Odia film industry and protecting the interests of artists. He clarified that the new film policy aims not only to promote film production but also to promote the Odia language and culture.
The government is also planning to establish at least one or two cinema halls in every block of the state. According to the Chief Minister, this will not only increase local entertainment opportunities but will also provide a wider audience for Odia films. This step is considered crucial to increasing the reach of cinema in rural and semi-urban areas.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also stated that many movie theater owners currently prioritize Hindi films, preventing Odia films from receiving adequate screenings. To address this, the government plans to implement regulations under a new policy that prioritize Odia films in cinema halls across the state.
He also clarified that strict action will be taken against any cinema hall or related entity found violating these regulations. The government believes that protecting and promoting the local film industry is the state’s cultural responsibility.
The new film policy is expected to introduce several reform measures for the Odia cinema industry. It will also address aspects such as incentives for film production, improved facilities for artists, and strengthening the distribution system. The government aims to establish a strong national presence for Bollywood.
Film experts believe that if implemented properly, this policy could revitalize the Odia cinema industry and provide greater opportunities for local artists, technicians, and filmmakers. Additionally, cultural activities in the state will receive a boost.
This government initiative is being considered an important step towards preserving the Odia language and culture. Establishing cinema halls in rural areas will not only boost the local economy but also provide people with better access to films in their own language.
The Chief Minister also indicated that a new film policy will be formally announced soon, followed by phased implementation. The government aims to expand Odia cinema to a wider audience and develop it into a vibrant industry.
Overall, this initiative by the Odisha government could prove to be a major game-changer for the state’s film industry. The new film policy and cinema hall expansion plan are expected to strengthen Ollywood and give local culture a new identity.
