Odisha: Over 3 quintals of ganja seized in Boudh, smugglers escape

Odisha: Kantamal police seized over 3 quintals of marijuana during a raid in the Balamatumba forest, forcing drug mafia to flee the scene.
Acting on reliable intelligence, Kantamal police, led by Inspector Basudev Bhoi, conducted a raid near Balamatumba village in Lambasari Panchayat. The team found a large quantity of marijuana ready for illegal trafficking. As the police advanced, the drug mafia fled, abandoning sacks full of marijuana.
Police weighed the seized contraband in the presence of a magistrate. The total quantity was 3 quintals and 2 kilograms. Authorities registered a case under the NDPS Act and initiated further investigation to apprehend the absconding drug mafia.
Inspector Basudev Bhoi confirmed that a strong police team was involved in the raid, including SI Prakash Bhoi, ASI Abhay Pradhan, Havildar Manas Pradhan, Constables Bhaktaluhar and Sunil Pradhan, Home Guards Laxmikant Sahu and Ghan Sahu, along with IRB staff.
This operation highlights the growing challenge of marijuana trafficking in Odisha’s forested areas. Police are intensifying surveillance and crackdowns to dismantle organized networks. The marijuana seizure in Kantamal is one of the largest recent arrests in the district, reaffirming the police’s commitment to curbing the illegal drug trade.
