Odisha: PIL in Orissa High Court on limiting the number of guests at social functions to 100

Cuttack: In this PIL, the petitioner has prayed that the State Government should be directed to limit the number of invited guests to 100 while organizing a wedding or any such social gathering or party for the general public, especially people living below the poverty line. Guidelines should be brought. A public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Orissa High Court regarding the number of guests to be invited to a social function.

According to reports, a PIL has been filed in the Orissa High Court regarding guests at social functions like weddings and birthdays.

A PIL has been filed in the High Court to ban expensive performances at weddings, birthdays, thread ceremonies and death rites. In this case, petitioner Parshuram Biswal has prayed that the number of guests at any social function should be limited to one hundred (100).

The petitioner has further said that this ban will greatly benefit poor and middle class families.

It is noteworthy that, in this public interest case filed by Parashuram Biswal of Indupur area of Jajpur district of Odisha, the Chief Administrative Secretary of the State Government, Secretary of Culture and Public Relations Department, Special Relief Commissioner and Law Secretary have been made parties.
