Odisha Vigilance arrests CRRI Police Station IIC Bijay Kumar Barik for taking bribe
Cuttack: Odisha Vigilance today arrested Bijay Kumar Barik, the Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of CRRI police station in Cuttack City for demanding and taking bribe from a licensed Liquor Vendor to allow his business smoothly.
Barik was arrested and forwarded to the court for demanding and taking bribe of Rs 40,000 from a licensed Liquor Vendor to allow his business smoothly. Barik was demanding more and more on several occasions, and the vendor was not able to fulfil. Following this, the vendor approached the Vigilance authorities.
Based on the complaint, a trap was laid today, wherein the accused IIC was nabbed by the team of Odisha Vigilance at Rajmahal Chhak in Bhubaneswar for demanding and taking undue advantage from a licensed Liquor Vendor.
The entire bribe money was recovered and seized from the possession of Barik in presence of witnesses. Both hands wash as well as pant pocket wash of Barik gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches have been conducted on the residential Government quarter of Barik at Unit-1, Bhubaneswar and his office chamber.
During house searches the following belongings were seized:
Cash of Rs.4,96,120 has been unearthed & seized from residential Govt. quarter of Barik.
Triple storeyed building at Sisupalagarh in Bhubaneswar.
Newly constructed double storeyed building at his native village Derabis, Kendrapada.
Costly wrist watches.
In this connection, Vigilance Cell PS Case No.01 dated 03.01.2026 U/s 7 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered and is under investigation.
Barik, who was born on June 15, 1983, entered into Government services on September 21, 2012 as SI of Police and worked in the capacity of SI of Police in different Police Stations in Boudh district from January 2014 to February 2019.
From March-2019, he was promoted to the rank of IIC and posted at Nayapali PS. Then, he worked as IIC from November-2021 under Police Commissionerate. From February 2024, he has been working as IIC, CRRI PS, Cuttack and is continuing as such till date.
