Odisha’s Kanteimundi brinjal gets GI tag
Bhubaneswar: The Kanteimundi brinjal which is widely cultivated in Nayagarh district of Odisha, has received GI (Geographical Indication) tag. As per information, this brinjal variety (the throned-calyx brinjal, scientific name – Solanum Melongena) is largely seen in Kantilo area of the district.
As per reports, the ‘Kanteimundi’ brinjal of Nayagarh has got GI tag. The Central Government has given its nod for GI tag for this vegetable of Odisha.
Reportedly, this variety of brinjal is cultivated in the Mahanadi River basin in Nayagarh district. Earlier, the administration had applied seeking GI tag for this brinjal.
