Officer who demanded bribe of Rs 10,000 under LIFE scheme in Vigilance custody
Malappuram: A village extension officer has been arrested for taking bribe. The incident took place in Malappuram Vazhikadavil. VEO Nijash was caught by surveillance. Nijash took a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a housewife for allotting a house under the Jeevan Bhawan scheme.
Recently a similar incident happened in Kozhikode also. The Nannambara gram panchayat office overseer and driver were arrested for demanding a bribe of Rs 3,000 for allotment of house numbers. Malappuram Vigilance caught overseer P Jaisal and driver Dijilesh. Zainaba had submitted an application to Nannambara Panchayat to get a house number after completing the work on her house in Thila, Cherumukku Salamat Nagar. Jaisal had said that the number would be given only after the concerned authorities investigate and remove the deficiencies, as the window has been placed at a place not planned.
Digilesh told the complainant that if he gave Rs 3,000, he would inform the overseer and everything would be put right. Zainaba’s son Zaheer Babu informed Malappuram Vigilance DSP M Firoz Shafiq about this. According to this, the vigilance team caught the overseer and the driver taking a bribe of Rs 3,000 from the complainant. The accused were produced before the Kozhikode vigilance court and taken on remand.
