Omar Abdullah said, election is our right, will not beg

Srinagar (IANS) | Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that elections are the right of the people and he will not beg anyone to hold them. Talking to reporters, Omar said, “We also have some self-respect and we will not beg anyone to hold elections here.” Election is the right of the people and the Election Commission should answer this question.

Omar said, didn’t the Chief Election Commissioner say that there is a void in Jammu and Kashmir which needs to be filled. Why is that void not being filled? If the Election Commission is under pressure then it should clearly say that it is under pressure and that is the reason why they cannot hold elections here.

He said that holding the G20 meeting in Srinagar and showing Kashmir to the world that all is well is a different thing. He insisted that people should know the reality.

The traffic is a mess here, he said. A distance that normally takes 5 minutes takes 40 minutes due to traffic jams. People are crying. Students and government employees cannot reach school and office on time. Nobody thinks about Kashmir.
