One Covid death reported in Tamil Nadu after 5 months
Chennai: One death due to COVID-19 was reported in Tamil Nadu on Thursday after a period of almost five months. The latest death on Thursday brings the COVID-19 death toll to 38,082.
It is being told that the death was mainly due to other pre-existing diseases. A 55-year-old woman from Ranipet with a history of type 2 diabetes mellitus, systemic hypertension, chronic kidney disease and rheumatoid arthritis was admitted to Peacock Hospital on December 24, 2023.
The patient was taken to the hospital and treated with complaints of difficulty breathing for 7 days. He was referred to Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital (RGGGH), Chennai on December 27, 2023. Despite treatment, the patient succumbed to COVID-19 pneumonia and acute pulmonary edema among other serious conditions on December 28, 2023.
Officials from the Directorate of Public Health (DPH) and Preventive Medicine say the public does not need to panic about the JN.1 variant as the reported cases have been reported as recovered. The death was due to pre-existing co-morbid conditions and people in high risk categories should remain alert.
