One person arrested with weapon
Amritsar: Rural police arrested Karanbir Singh, resident of village Wadala Kalan and recovered a country-made weapon with five live cartridges from his possession. Rural police and Batala police were looking for him in several incidents of firing. He was evading arrest for the last six months. Amritsar Rural Police SSP Satinder Singh confirmed his arrest and said that he was caught from Dhol Kalan village. According to the information, two criminal cases were registered against the accused for setting fire to a liquor vend in Batala area about six months ago. A case of Arms Act and attempt to murder was registered against him in Amritsar Rural Police last year. The SSP said that he will be produced in the court and brought on police remand for further questioning. tns
Youth arrested for raping a minor
Amritsar: Jhander police has arrested Hardeep Singh of village Kotli Sakkianwali on charges of raping a minor girl. The victim was alone at home when the incident occurred four days ago. Initially the family did not lodge a complaint against the accused due to fear of social humiliation, but now after the statement of the victim’s mother, the police have registered a case and arrested him. She told the police that on Monday she had gone out for some work and her daughter was alone at home. She said that when she returned, she saw that Hardeep was raping her daughter. Seeing him he ran away. Police have registered an FIR under Section 376 of the IPC and Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
