One person killed in Puliyanthop over a fight over buying liquor
CHENNAI: A 45-year-old casual laborer was beaten to death by his friend in Puliyanthope on Saturday following a drunken brawl.
The deceased was identified as Baskar, a resident of KP Park 12th Block, Pulianthope.
On Saturday morning, residents found Baskar lying unconscious in a pool of blood behind a building block and informed the police. He was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead.
Pulianthope police have registered a case of murder and started investigation. Investigation revealed that Bhaskar was drinking alcohol with his friend Raja alias Katu Raja, who is a resident of KP Park Tenement.
Police investigation revealed that Raja and Bhaskar are daily wage labourers, drive fish carts and do other odd jobs.
On Friday morning, Raja had given Rs 140 to Baskar to buy liquor, which Baskar had spent on himself.
Later at night, when Raja is drinking alone, Bhaskar also joins him, already in an inebriated state and when Raja questions him about the money, an argument breaks out between them.
In the scuffle, Raja took a wooden log and attacked Bhaskar and left the scene.
Pulianthope police arrested Raja on charges of murder. He was produced before the magistrate and sent to judicial custody.
